Atheism, Theism, Ramblings.

My first day.

Okay, so lets get this ball rolling.

Since I said I'd talk a little bit about what life is like as a test developer at Microsoft, it's high time I started. So, to kick this off, I'm going to talk about my first day as a SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test).

Pat Condell is my new hero

For a large portion of my life, I've had a great deal of admiration for Andrew Tridgell. This was primarily due to the fact that he's the smartest bloke I've ever heard of, and knows his way around network protocols better than anyone.

That said, things change. Given that I'm coming around to having some strong feelings about religious delusions, I'm willing to applaud anyone who doesn't pull his punches.

Pat Condell is that man.

Mundane others

Of course, not that I expect my previous declaration to be a shock to many people. The world hardly revolves around me.

Anyway, it's time to push on with things, I'm going to try to force myself to talk more about life here in general at Microsoft. Note that I can't really talk about the product I'm working on, but I can talk about life as a tester here.

Blasphemy Challenge.

Okay, so it occurs to me that not posting to my blog in 4 months pretty much reinforces the notion that a blog is something you start, and then stop doing because it's fad-like. Ah well. In response to this, here's something I've been doing since I turned around 7 or 8 or so (I forget exactly when)

I took the Blasphemy Challenge. That's right, I'm an Atheist.

Fixing 'Access is denied' in IE when dragging/dropping into favorites

Okay, Given that I was a firefox user for a long time (and may well be again when FF3.0 comes out), I've grown used to using a toolbar for my commonly used bookmarks.

I toss folders into the toolbar, and links into the folders, and occasionally, folders into the folders, for several levels of quickly accessible bookmarks for the more commonly used stuff.

Snow!

Berocca

Okay, so my supply of berocca is slowly dwindling, and while waiting for something to compile and sipping on some of the stuff, I did a bit of googling to see if I work out why it's not available in chemists or whatever here in America.

Conspiracy theories aside, it simply looks like no-one's bothered to *try* yet. Which is strange, since it's clearly got a positive benefit beyond just hangover recovery.

Few more photos.

Stop bitching, mom.

(okay, okay, I'll never use 'mom' again. geez)

Andrew

Hmf.

Okay, there's too many aussies here. Makes it really hard to immerse myself in the culture. :)

Went to the aussie themed pub on friday night to watch the AFL grand final with a few other MSFTies. First time over the 520 bridge across lake washington as well. Glad I wasn't the one doign the driving. Place is a bit of a maze.

Place was packed with expats, although there were quite a few americans watching the match as well.

Yay Geelong. Good to have the flag back in Victoria, it's been away a bit too long.
